It's kinda funny to read so many people joining up this group because they want to skydive but aren't very proactive in actually going. There are so many different dropzones in various areas that people can go to, all you need to do it look it up and dropzone.com is a great place to find a close one to where you live.
To wait for an organizer to set up a meeting is kind of wasting perfectly good blue skies until that date comes, right? So why with so many people wanting to......do I not see people actually looking for carpools or asking questions to members that are current skydivers? I only received one email from a guy who was really interested in getting certified, and who wanted to set up a carpool to the Ranch in NY. So I just thought I would put it out there, because it seems like this group just attracts people that enjoy the thought of possibly one day making a tandem jump.....I was hoping to see alot more activity than just waiting around for an organized trip once a month. Im sure I wont get any replies, and Im not looking for one, but I really wish that there were more proactive people wanting to actually go to dropzones, because it really is alot more fun in groups ![]() |

Hi Cali!
Thanks for your suggestions. I agree that as a community, skydivers are pretty tight-knit and we need to rely on one another to arrange trips, offer transportation and suggestions. You are on the right track! As for us having one meetup a month.... this is where you are not completely correct. If you look at our activity last summer you'll see that we tend to head to the DZ every other week as an official meetup group. We've found that this is enough jumping even for our regular, seasoned skydivers because we all need a weekend off once in a while. :) I will be posting more events shortly. Feel free to suggest particular dates! Hope that helped- Jen |

I hear ya, no disrespect intended, but I see this group only rounding up people that want to do tandems, not carpooling for weekend jumps. Im new to this, as of this date only having 16 jumps(and counting) but every dropzone I have been to, regular skydivers have crazy and hectic weeks and look fwd to jumping every weekend just to get away from everything, Ive never met one that just goes every once in a while, unless of course they simply cant, in which case I see them selling their rigs on dz.com.
Im just trying to see if anyone is even interested in actually going more than once? ok so there are a few that want to go more than once, but just tandems. I've only gotten one person who actually wants to go with me to help guide them through the cert process...Kind of sad considering so many want to do it. Maybe there should be a tandem skydiving group made up, in which case you would get a free jump if you get enough people :) Like I said, no disrespect and if you or anyone else takes it the wrong way then, it is what it is....I just joined up to meet skydivers, to actually carpool, and do a few fun jumps, party after sunset then go home.....Even for this Sat meetup, I see people talking about going but having to leave by a certain time, in my opinion, they are def not interested in doing this as a sport. Ive had to wait hours to get up because I was grounded due to clouds or wind, even yesterday when I was at xkeys, some chick got pissed off because she waited too long, asked for a refund and left, 30 min later, the cloud hold was lifted and tandems went up again....So it pays to be patient and sometimes in skydiving you will go to DZ's and never get to go up...shit happens. I wont apologize for what I have written, Im not a nasty or mean person, Im just telling you what I see and how I feel |

Again, not disagreeing with you, but we all started as tandems. ;)
Some of us (even one of our members with 170+ jumps) thought they would do it once and be done. Then we found out how insanely addicting this can be and have stuck around. The thing I really like about this group is the wide range of experience we have. It's exciting for me to see a member get their next licene and it's probably even more exciting to be there for someone's first jump. We are not going to be a group that caters to seasoned skydivers. This group is a way for people to try something new, make new friends and have a good time. I love your passion for the sport, but I encourage you to remember that we all have different lives, duties and financial constraints that keep us from jumping as much as we may want to. During the summer I generally get 2 emails per week from other seasoned members of the group who are heading to a DZ and are offering rides. You meet people and they invite you to come to a DZ with them - this is how we choose to operate. Belated congratulations, by the way, on your AFF completion! Woohoooo! Hope to meet you soon- Blue skies! |

I understand and thank you for understanding and seeing how it might be a bit frustrating. You do have a great thing going on here for skydiving hopefuls and Im sure there will be one or two that actually get their licenses and thats awsome.
I was at xkeys May 17th but I didnt think that there were enough people grouped up to ask if they were from the meetup. I was there to get a few coach jumps done but ended up being there Sat and Sunday without even jumping once due to winds and you and I both know that anything over 14 is a nogo for "student" status ![]() Anyway, I have goals to meet and thats to get my license (although I can fly solo at this point) and fly a rig (Im buying one off of my instructors) with a 150 Sabre by my birthday which is June 8th, that weekend I will be there, just like this coming weekend and basically every weekend I possibly can lol so if you happen to be there, def look for me, my car is the only one (dark gray) with California license plates and if you ask manifest if Cali is there, they will point you in the right direction everyone knows me and Im well liked (not to brag) I look forward to meeting you and other future skydivers |
